Dr. Vijay Gupta is Professor & Clinical Head, Department of Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery, Dr.Rajiv Gandhi superspecility hospital, New Delhi. He is from the 1974 batch of LLRM, Medical College. He did his M. S. General surgery in 1983, in which he received a Gold Medal. Later, he opted cardiac surgery as his carrier & completed M. Ch. In CTVS in 1985 from G. B. Pant Hospital, New Delhi.

After, finishing his studies, he worked in Mission Hospital, MirajMahrashtra for seven years. He worked in Texas Heart Institute with Dr. Denton Cooley, Houston, USA in 1987. He did his pediatric cardiac surgery fellowship from Sydney, Australia from 1994-95. He joined central health services in 1998 and started a new cardiac surgery department in RML Hospital. Soon, RML became one of the finest government setup for cardiac surgery. In 2009, he went to St. Ontario Canada and did training in minimal invasive and robotic cardiac surgery. He has trained many young cardiac surgeons He has more than 70 publications in various national & international journals.In 2022 he retired from Dr RML hospital and joined RGSSH.

He is a fellow of international college of surgeons & fellow of international college of angiology. He was an executive member of Indian Association of Cardio-thoracic Surgeons .He played active role in starting Delhi Chapter of Association of Cardio-thoracic Surgery.

He has done more than 10,000 cardio thoracic operations which include CABG, Neonatal complex congenital cardiac surgery, valve replacement & other major cardiac procedures.
